Course Description

This workshop aims to empower teachers to develop their understanding and apply assessment as a supportive and central tool in the learning process, going beyond merely measuring outcomes to support comprehensive understanding, encourage self-reflection, and enable learners to make informed decisions about their learning. The workshop will address assessment for learning and provide more in depth strategies on assessment as learning to guide ongoing teaching- presenting a variety of practical strategies for primary classrooms, such as observation records, rubrics, self- and peer-assessment, performance tasks, and the use of innovative methods like mind maps and assessment banks. The workshop will also highlight the importance of analyzing assessment data to accurately monitor student learning. It invites teachers to adopt a culture of constructive assessment to increase learner motivation and appreciate their active role as engaged partners in their educational journey.

Learning Outcome

  1. Define the role of assessment for and as learning as a supportive and central tool to continuously guide and improve the learning process.

  2. Apply a set of effective assessment strategies in primary classrooms to adapt teaching and support student progress.

  3. Accurately analyze student learning data to provide effective feedback.

  4. Examine the role of formative assessment and feedback in improving student learning.

  5. Develop a classroom culture that supports assessment for learning, fostering learners’ intrinsic motivation and valuing their active role in the learning process.
